TLDR; Not what I expected, probably should have tried the Hellion Elite

I bought these shoes from Jenson USA to replace my well-worn RC Hellcats. I wanted a shoe with a secure fit (especially around the ankle), sticky rubber, and durable. These shoes don’t really to match any of those.

The BOA system makes it easy to adjust, but it doesn’t have a super secure feel. It also feels like the material stretches and loses tension constantly. It’s also hard, if not impossible, to get the ankle hold I got with the Hellcats. By the time I get the BOA tight enough, I’m losing circulation and getting major hotspots on the bottoms of my feet.

The rubber on these shoes is weird. They’re super sticky - when off the bike. While in the pedals it’s hard to get fell where my feet are on the bike and they tend to slip at weird times. These shoes also have a narrow profile compared to the Hellcats and don’t sit on to of all the pedal pins. I ride Tenet Occult pedals for reference.

As for durability, time will tell. The upper material is super thin and I don’t have high hopes. The rocks in AZ can be hard on gear. The Hellcats have seen everything from rock strikes to long hikes and they’re still going strong. The soles are just worn though. The Hellions feel like they will rip if you look them wrong.

To make a long review longer, these shoes are a swing and a miss for me. Maybe the Hellion Elites would have been better.

I love the boa fit system the grip on the bottom is good but the shoe is very flexy not good for jumping, I guess I should have ordered the Hellion Elite boa in retrospect would be better fit for me raised it to four stars because it is a good shoe for XC and Cruiser riding

I have previously ridden FiveTen Freeride Pro, RC Hellion & RC Tallic BOA......and hands down, these are the best shoes I have owned. Great stick on the soles, plenty of toe space & nothing beats the BOA, particularly the way this BOA spreads the pressure over two large flaps vs just the narrow chord crossing. Highly recommend these shoes!
